Pre-development works commence at Lomondgate EV Businesss and Charging Hub Site

Site investigation works commence in West Dunbartonshire, to build a new EV business and charging hub

Ground investigation works at Lomondgate in West Dunbartonshire have started this week. The development, which is situated at the gateway to the north of Scotland via the A82, marks an important milestone for Greenwheel Electric as they prepare to launch their flagship location.

The project at Lomondgate has been developed in partnership between Greenwheel Electric and the Strathleven Foundation CIC, which stewards the proceeds from the sale of SRCIC’s land assets in the Lomondgate area. These funds are dedicated to creating a lasting positive impact for the communities of Dumbarton and the Vale of Leven.

Working closely with the local community to develop their plans for the site, which include 18 charging bays supplying low-cost, ultra-rapid charging from 100% renewable energy, alongside business-focused office meeting spaces and a local retail outlet, the site promises to support jobs in the area.

Site activity has started this week, with the works being undertaken by Kiloh Associates with support from DG Drilling. Following a bird nesting survey, the work will continue through until approximately 8th of May.

This will involve limited drilling and trial pitting at specific locations across the site to better understand the ground conditions and analyse ground material from the borrow pit locations, to allow the ground material that is already on the site to be re-purposed during the EV hub construction.

These investigative works will be integral to the approach taken during the construction phase, which is currently anticipated to commence in 2027.

Jason McCall, Managing Director of Greenwheel Electric said: “This is an important step forward for Greenwheel Electric, and we are pleased to be progressing into this next phase of pre-development work. These investigations will help ensure that the project is delivered responsibly and efficiently, using local materials and resources where possible.

“We have worked alongside the community to develop our plans for Lomondgate, and remain committed to continuing that constructive dialogue as the project moves ahead. We are focused on delivering this project in a way that brings long-term benefits to the local community and businesses.”

Allan McQuade, Trustee from Strathleven Foundation CIC, said: “We are delighted that Greenwheel Electric will develop our last remaining plot at Lomondgate. They are a young, energetic company determined to do business in a meaningful way. The introduction of an EV hub will be a great asset both for local residents and all travellers on the A82”
